Hygienic indicator bacteria (mainly E. coli, enterococci) are the main monitoring targets in natural waters for assessing hygienic risk of municipal and industrial waste waters. However, they can be used in far more efficient way. If we start analysis with sample enrichment and use phetotype analysis, we can even distinguish waste waters from different sources in lake water using the same indicator bacteria.
